Born 1952, Steve Fishman is an artist who earned his MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University (1989) and maintains his studio at his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His large body of work includes painting, printmaking, drawing and collage, in both figurative and abstract styles. Fishman has served as a visiting artist, instructor and guest lecturer at numerous colleges and universities, including The Department of Art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Sweet Briar College in Amherst, VA, and at Longwood College in Farmville, VA. He was a 1999 fellow in residence at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA), located near Sweet Briar College in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in rural Virginia.
Steve’s work has been exhibited internationally in England, Scotland and South America, is a member of a number of printmaking consortiums including the Virginia based ONE OFF and the North Carolina Printmakers Guild. His work is included in the collections of The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Statewide Media Collection, the Virginia Commonwealth University Special Collections, Wheatfirst Securities, Owens and Minor, Inc., The Federal Reserve Bank, and the Medical College of Virginia as well as in many private collections.
